Childhood Christmas Wishes

I was just going through some old pictures and i found these of me that my mum took the minute i woke up on Christmas day in Spain.

The excitement on my face i just find magical! Like i truly believed in Magic - how amazing to capture that in a picture! The pure amazement and genuine belief.  And this is exactly why i love making so much effort with Honey and Rocco and making Christmas magical because its what my mum did for me.  These memories and feelings you can't replace!

So when i was little i always wanted a Christmas Tree in my bedroom and of course i wanted a real one (haha)

This is me and my dad with my tree in my bedroom!

Well when we were in Paperchase last week Honey saw this little tree

It is £8.50 from www.paperchase.co.uk

I just love it!! Sooo cute and believe it not i had one just like this when i was about 12 in my room! As we are getting a real tree this year for our lounge and we aren't going to get it right at the beginning of Dec i thought it would be nice for Sunday 1st December for Elvis to bring Honey this tree and some baubles for her bedroom!

I'm going to get her some really kitsch decorations and let her go to town! I'm even going to get some tinsel hahaha - Paperchase have a great selection and some little lights!

They also have this one in Paperchase which is also lovely

I love making Honeys dreams come true - its so rewarding and i know i won't but i hope i'll be as good a mum as my mum! She is my best friend and i wouldn't know what to do with out her! I'd say she's the original magic mummy

Making new family traditions are the best!

Waterstones

I've decided Waterstones is one of my favourite places!!!

Many book shops have closed down due to internet shopping / kindles etc which is so sad! I order my books online when i have to for convenience but actually going to a book shop is so much fun.

There is a big Waterstones near us and we went there the other day.  Granted we went in for specific items the feel of a book shop is lovely! There were children sat in the childrens corner reading books and playing and mums browsing the shelves for anything from cookbooks to how to get your toddler to sleep to 50 shades of grey.

I love giving books for presents - for young and old - they are the present thats last long after the book has been read!

Some great bookshops have little coffee shops in them which is just heaven!

I am planning to go to Waterstones one Sunday when my hubby will have the children just to escape the world and be in this magical bubble! Thousands of books filled with secrets and history and love and magic - the world is literally your oyster.

I really wanted The Great Gatsby (i loved the film but i want to read it).  They had one by the till and i asked "do you have any other covers?" hahaha writing that down makes me feel a little crazy! I mean a books a book isn't it?? NO it isn't he showed me to a plethora of different covers! Of course i went for the Tiffany designed one and it is now in pride of place on my bedside table!

They also do some fabulous little gifts and stationary!

They had some pads called Knock Knock

I've found a selection at Utility Design - some of them are really useful others hilarious!!!

The other books i found were called Listography Journals - they do Film, Music, Friends.  My favourite is My Future Listography

This is a fabulous book to plan and keep all your future dreams!

They also have the most amazing Childrens books - books you don't know about - books you didn't think about - books you didn't know you needed!

I'm going to plan to take Honey to a bookshop for a mummy honey date every few months - just us two.  I want her to love the magic of books like i do.

So todays something cool in a nut shell is book shops!!! A free place to escape avec enfants!!! And a fabulous place to buy fabulous books that last a lifetime!!

Happy Reading

DIY Fairy doors

Well i'm back again with another Fairy related post! This time its fairy doors! They are super cute and add a bit of magic to your little ones bedroom!

www.notonthehighstreet.com

Now to be honest i have found the fairy door to be somewhat of a life saver. Say what you like about 'bribery' as a parenting skill but in my house its under rule number 17 of 'how to survive everyday life with your toddler without loosing your mind' book (please note this book doesn't really exist so please don't check amazon as i have already looked high and low).

I put Sienna to bed at night and tell her if she doesn't go straight to sleep the fairies are going to come through the door to check on her and if she's not asleep they will go and tell santa and she wont get any christmas presents. This works a treat as she definitely doesn't want to be without presents and she goes straight to sleep!

It also works as an alternative reward chart.

If Sienna is a good girl or she doesn't exhibit any unacceptable behaviour (like hitting her brother) the Fairies will bring her a special treat over night. This is usually a chocolate coin or something similar and she is so happy to have had a treat from the fairies it really encourages her to continue with her good behaviour. I find it works best if you work on one issue at once!

So here is Siennas Fairy door its fixed to the wall resting on her skirting board in her bedroom.

This is actually really easy to make! Even if you're not very crafty you could easily make this. The actual door and frame are from a dolls house. So if you search on google or go to hobbycraft you will find a whole array of different dolls house doors that are unpainted so you can customise them as you like. I also bought a door knock and a door handle for Sienna's. All i did was paint the door and the frame in my choice of colour and then i spray painted the door knock and handle silver as it was brass and i preferred silver but you can do any colour you like. I then added Siennas name with some letter stickers i picked up in hobby craft and also added her age at the time as the door number. Then i just stuck it to the wall with my glue gun!

Its so simple to do and it really looks so sweet in their room!

Let us know if you plan to make a fairy door too or if you already have one!

A Little Fairy Magic

In our house we believe! We believe in magic, Santa, elves, easter bunnies, wishes, dreams, we believe in everything... especially fairies!

Whilst browsing pinterest i came across lots of amazing fairy gardens and i really wanted to make one for Sienna for our garden! Now its not as impressive as some on Pinterest but i'm no Charlie Dimmock and Sienna loves it so thats all that matters!

So to make this i bought a big plastic plant pot from b&q and some compost and a few plants. I made the little house from some twigs we collected and cut them to size and glued them with a hot glue gun. The little path was made with some stones and the little fairy seating area was made from some thicker branches and just cut to size. I then added in a few little ornamental bits and hey presto, our very own fairy garden! Sienna absolutely loves it and she loves looking to see what the fairies are doing in there!

Let us know if you plan to make or have made your own fairy garden, we would love to hear about your own ideas!

Statement Jewels

The latest trend of Statement Jewellery wasn't my favourite discovery! I'm not a big jewellery person.... I like my simple pieces like my engagement and wedding ring, diamond studs and a heart diamond necklace from my dad.  I always feel a bit silly and uncomfortable in big chunky necklaces and big pat butcher esque earrings!!! I'm more a statement shoe and bag person!
My wonderful friend Gerry introduced me to Stella & Dot and my mum and I had a Trunk Show for all of our friends.  Well everyone loved it! The jewellery is fabulous, amazing quality! I don't think anyone left without buying something!
I asked Gerry what she thought about Statement pieces for mums:
"Statement jewellery allows women to step out of the mundane and define themselves as confident, passionate, and interesting ladies. Many women long to wear high heels but Mummies tend to avoid them as let's face it, they are SO not practical when you are running around after small people! So for the instant Statement boost, why not put your Superpower Statement piece on that will make you feel and look fabulous.
A statement necklace can completely change an outfit and many pieces can be worn dressed up or down (dress for wedding or jeans and t-shirt), keeping the cost per wear very reasonable. Statement jewellery includes; Bib necklaces, layering necklaces, cocktail rings, chandelier/hoop earrings, cuffs & bangles"
I couldn't agree more - heel's are a defo no for me - Rocco is Bolt quick!!
I bought this necklace and these earrings from the collection with my points for being a Hostess with the Mostess haha!

I love the necklace - i've worn it lots and feel good in it! The earrings however just aren't me - i'm not a hoop person ive decided i feel like JLo when she was with P Diddy when i wear them (i'm a boring stud girl haha).  But its all about trying new things - i've now got a few statement necklaces and silly as it sounds they really do change an outfit up!! They don't have to be expensive the highstreet is full of lovely options!!
I couldn't write about Stella & Dot without mentioning 2 things 1 is the amazing bracelets they do!!!
The Spirit Bracelet is my fave (it was for Autistic Awareness month)
This makes such a beautiful present - i bought one for my niece for her 15th birthday and she loves it!!
And secondly their packaging!!! Its a girls dream come true!!! All lovely boxes which i love on my dressing table!!!

If you would like to host a Trunk Show has all of these and more! www.stelladot.co.uk/gerrylee
